MY Values

"To add value to others, one must first value others" - John Maxwell

Professional Value Statement

As a soon-to-be occupational therapist, I have the skills and ambition to enable clients to get back to living and engage in meaningful experiences. I believe that all people have a right to a healthy quality of life.

Personal Value Statement

Having developed a passion towards enabling people to get back to living, I’ve built my professional and interpersonal skills to a level where I feel confident that I can make a positive impact.

My ability to think things through and examine them from all sides, combined with my desire to take initiative and remain accountable, are key strengths that support my philosophy of practice.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

My personal experiences and life journey thus far have had a tremendous influence on my perspective of individuals, environments, and the world as a whole. Throughout my adolescence, I have taken initiative to work and volunteer with children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities. Working and interacting with such diverse populations has allowed me to fully understand that every person is unique and each individual has their own story to tell

Not only have I had the opportunity to work and volunteer with amazing individuals, but I have also had the unique blessing of growing up with an older brother with autism. While growing up with a brother with a neurodevelopmental disorder certainly has its challenges, it has also brought about many benefits and learning experiences that has shaped my holistic and inclusive mindset.

As a child I was not particularly aware of my brother’s disability, yet I was intrigued by his unique way of doing particular tasks and socializing with others. As I grew older, I observed the different types of therapy he received, including working with an OT, and the positive influence it had on his overall growth and development. He’s now grown into a quirky and humorous young man that I love whole heartily. He has played a major role in my life and has directly influenced my goal to work with other individuals with disabilities and enable them to enjoy their daily meaningful activities and reach their full potential.
